But how to make them play it?
I finished testing, did some final bugfixing/ balancing. Lighting data is being built for that one level I forgot to build lighting data for... Before uploading and submitting some final thoughts on how to make people play your game?
1. This is itch.io! That means that indie horror is god, and PSX graphics is the pope. Seriously- one game I did in low poly style with PSX style shader is easily the most played game on my profile. It's nowhere close to being the best one, but people see that mismatched polygons, and just click at it!
2. Good name that makes people go "what?". My first game was called "While you sleep I hunt ghosts with the pope's revolver". You can't really ignore it.
3. That tile also has at least three words, that people seem to click (ghosts, hunt, and revolver). I also got some hits on "Dick Storm- freelance evil cult exterminator". Yeah, turns out people type "Dick" in the searchbar a lot. I don't expect they were looking for a fast paced wave shooter, where you get more points for shooting while in air... but they played the game!
4. Make a web-build, if your engine allows for it. Some people won't download games on their drive (for example- they play during work. I don't judge!), but will play in the browser. Mu play numbers got way higher after I started providing web builds. You can also provide both versions, if you're cool like that!
5. Play other people's games. Leave comments. This is not a 100% thing, but people tend to play games by other jammers that gave them some feedback.
6. Screenshots, better yet- animated gifs or videos of the gameplay. Have them on your game's page!
